Twelve current board members and five new faces were appointed to fill seats on various Mountlake Terrace volunteer boards and commissions during Monday’s City Council meeting by a unanimous council vote of the consent calendar.

The 17 appointments are for terms on five city boards and commissions that begin on July 1. The terms on four of the boards — Arts Advisory Commission, Community Policing Advisory Board, Library Board and Recreation & Parks Advisory Commission — are for three years; the Planning Commission terms are for four years.

While city officials will sometimes not have enough applicants to fill vacancies on the various boards, a wealth of applications came in this cycle of interested city residents wanting to serve. Those applicants who weren’t selected for a board appointment will have their applications kept on file for future consideration.

“There is a nice pool of candidates developing in the case of interim openings in the next year,” stated a city memorandum from Virginia Olsen, City Clerk/Community Relations Director.
