There will be no Community Transit bus service this Sunday, June 13. The agency is suspending service on Sundays and major holidays as part of a package of cuts aimed at saving $16 million over two years.
Other cuts include reduced commuter service to Seattle, fewer early morning and late night trips, and revised routing that eliminates some neighborhood loops.
Community Transit has seen its primary source of funding – sales tax revenues – drop to 2005 levels due to the recession. Aside from the service cuts, the agency raised local bus fares on June 1 to help bring in additional revenue.
Last Sunday, Community Transit staff were out in force at park & ride lots and on buses during to remind riders that was the last Sunday for the agency’s bus service. Most riders were aware of the change, though some were caught offguard.
Bus riders are being advised to make their own transportation plans for Sundays, or call the North Sound 2-1-1 social services hotline for assistance. Everett Transit, King County Metro Transit and Sound Transit will continue to operate on Sundays.
