The volunteers of Clothes for Kids, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing clothing to eligible children in Snohomish County, held their Celebrate the Children Luncheon and Auction on April 2, 2011. The sold out event was hosted by the Edmonds Lutheran Church, which was packed with more than 120 in attendance.
Attendees dined on more than 20 different salads prepared by the volunteers and also received a souvenir cookbook. The auction items had been procured by volunteers from local businesses and were bid on in the silent auction and the live auction, or purchased from the boutique. Attendees also donated generously to the Fund A Need plea. The afternoon’s events generated over $7,400.00 for Clothes for Kids.
“My goal was to raise $3,000 to $3,500,” said Nancy Laird-Burris, program manager of Clothes for Kids. “I was blown away by the response from the volunteers, the community and the attendees. When I added up the bid sheets and the Fund-A-Need totals I said, ‘Wow’ at least 10 times.”
Clothes for Kids is very grateful to community businesses for their donations; to Edmonds Lutheran Church for the use of their Fellowship Hall; Job’s Daughters for their assistance during the event; Midge Tallman of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for lending her talents as auctioneer; and to all those in attendance at the Luncheon and Auction for their show of support.
