The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is set for Friday, Dec. 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W.
The event features a concert by Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Terrace Park Elementary School students, a visit from Santa and the traditional lighting of the tree.
Visible for miles around, the enormous “tree” is actually a frame constructed of over 1,800 lights and placed on top of the city’s water tower. The LED lights use only 25 percent of the power as the old lights while containing twice as many lights.
Tour de Terrace volunteers will be serving cookies, hot coffee and cocoa while Santa meets with the children. Experienced attendees know that Santa will make his grand entrance on a Fire Truck. At the end of the program, cupcakes will be served to celebrate the city’s 60th Birthday.
Guests should dress warm and wear boots if the weather is wet. The event is free, however cash donations will be accepted for the Michelle Ringler Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund. Since 2002, the Fund has helped over 400 children register for recreation programs at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion.
