City of MLT given budgeting award

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recently awarded the City of Mountlake Terrace its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the preparation of the city’s 2013/2014 Biennial Budget. The city’s Biennial Budget was rated “Outstanding” as a policy document by the GFOA.

In Washington state, Mountlake Terrace is one of only 30 cities to receive the award.

The GFOA award reflects the ongoing and continued commitment of the City Council and city personnel to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting, financial accountability and financial integrity, the city said in a recent press release.

In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communication device.
