City Departments to look ahead to 2015 at Monday’s Mountlake Terrace City Council meeting

City-of-MLT-logoIf you’re wondering what’s in store for Mountlake Terrace in 2015, Monday’s City Council meeting should provide some of the answers.

A presentation on all City departments’ 2015 workplans will be provided. Departments include Administrative Services, City Manager’s Office, Community and Economic Development, Engineering/Public Works, Facilities, Finance, Parks Services, Police Department, and Recreation.

The Council Council is scheduled to consider two agreements with the Cities of Brier and Edmonds.

An Interlocal Agreement was drafted with Brier identifying specific reactive police services the Mountlake Terrace Police Department would provide when the City of Brier is unable to provide coverage due to staff shortages. The services are reactive only to in-progress person and property crimes. The term of the agreement would expire on December 31. In-progress person and property crimes are fairly insignificant in Brier. Therefore, if Brier does request reactive police services from Mountlake Terrace, it is not anticipated to significantly increase the workload for the Mountlake Terrace Police Department or decrease the level of police services provided to Mountlake Terrace residents.

On March 12, the City of Edmonds and City of Mountlake Terrace entered into an Agreement defining their respective rights, obligations, costs, and liabilities regarding the design and construction of the 228th Street SW Corridor Improvements Project. The agreement requires that the Mountlake Terrace City Council notify Edmonds of its concurrence with the anticipated bid award within 30 days of bid opening. Edmonds received competitive bids for its 228th Street SW Corridor Improvements Project on March 26 and provided those bids to Mountlake Terrace. Edmonds plans to award the construction contract to the low responsible bidder, Rodarte Construction, Inc.

City staff is recommendation adoption of the Resolution concurring with Edmonds construction contract award for the Edmonds 228th Corridor Improvements Project and authorizing the City Engineer to execute change orders in an amount of $40,000 or less provided project cost remains within previously approved Mountlake Terrace budget appropriations.

The City Council is scheduled to hear an update on Emergency Management Services and staff’s recommendation that the City withdraw from the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency (ESCA) and join the other cities in negotiating Emergency Management Services through Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management (DEM).

The Police Department will be recognizing nine employees for extraordinary performance during highly unusual circumstances over the past several years.

The Snohomish County Tourism Bureau will present its 2014 annual report.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Interim City Hall, 6100 219th St. SW., Suite 220, second floor.
