It is now the third day since Tuesday’s election and we know that the three incumbents will likely be back on the council for another 4 years. The only race where we have heard from the candidates is position 4 between Kyoko Wright and Jasmin Contreras but with around 65% of the received ballots counted, it is anticipated that Kyoko Wright, Rick Ryan and Jerry Smith will retain their positions on the council.

The remaining race is position 3 between Andrew Funk and Doug McCardle. Each day Snohomish County releases their updated numbers. On Tuesday evening Doug McCardle had a 130 vote lead. On Wednesday that lead decreased to 109 votes and Thursday, 85 votes. With somewhere around 1,600-1,700 votes left to count, this race could get very close. If the final count is within 50 votes, there will be an automatic recount so, realistically, it could be weeks before we find out who will fill position 3.
