City Council Issues Proclamations

At their May 2 meeting, City Council issued proclamations for May 15 to 21 as Public Works Week, and as Law Enforcement Appreciation Week and May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.

National Public Works Week, May 15 – 21, recognizes services provided by Public Works employees such as water, sewer, storm, street, traffic control, and equipment rental that provide for the health, safety and comfort of citizens.

The Congress and President of the United States has designated Sunday, May 15, 2011 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of duty.

The week of May 15-21 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Week. The City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department members play an essential role in safeguarding the rights, freedoms, life and property of its citizens by protecting them against violence and disorder.

The City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department is hosting a Police Memorial Week ceremony and department open house on Tuesday, May 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Police Station, 5906 232nd Street S.W.

The memorial ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a color guard ceremony and the placing of a wreath at the base of the flagpole in front of the station in honor of fallen police officers. The open house will follow and ends at 8:00 p.m. This is a family event.
