City Council to hear about Sound Transit’s Long Range Plan at Monday’s meeting

City of MLT logoThe Mountlake Terrace City Council is scheduled to have a briefing from Sound Transit on the agency’s Light Rail Long Range Plan at Monday’s meeting.

Sound Transit currently is looking at expanding light rail from Lynnwood to Everett and is considering three options, including routes that connect with Paine Field/Boeing, one that largely follows Interstate 5 and one that follows Interstate 5 and then cuts over to Highway 99. Two rapid-transit bus routes also are under consideration.

The agency also is considering providing high capacity transit from Edmonds to Seattle via Shoreline and Ballard; regional express from Woodinville to Everett; and a street car connecting Alderwood Mall to Edmonds Community College.

The City Council also is scheduled to consider the adoption of an Electric Vehicle Charging Station Restriction Ordinance and an Electrical Vehicle Charging Station Fee Resolution.

The Ordinance reflects state law in terms of electric vehicle charging station parking violations and provides penalties for the violation. Mountlake Terrace Municipal Code currently does not provide for provisions for electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging.

The new law states: “No person shall park a vehicle in an Electric Vehicle charging station provided on public or private property if the vehicle is not connected to charging equipment.” The update defines electric vehicles, establishes electric vehicle charging station violations, and provides penalties for the violation. The Resolution states that monetary penalty for electric vehicle charging station violations shall be $124.
