The 2013 Mountlake Terrace Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will consist of three holdovers and one new face after appointments to the board were approved by the City Council on Monday.
Ayesha Sheikh, Studio 6 Hotel General Manager; Laura Peckinpaugh, Studio 6 Hotel Operations Manager; and Carol McMahan, member of the Arts Advisory Commission and Friends of the Arts organization were all re-appointed to the lodging tax committee, while Carol Brickel, member of Tour de Terrace Organization, was appointed to the board for the first time.
The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing requests and making recommendations to the City Council for allocating Lodging Tax Funds collected in Mountlake Terrace. The tax funds collected this year can only be used to help fund tourism related events and programs that “provide an economic benefit to the community and promote overnight stays” in Mountlake Terrace in 2014.
In 2012 the lodging tax collected by the city totaled more than $22,000 with the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee recommending the funds go to Tour de Terrace, Arts of the Terrace, and the Snohomish Tourism Bureau Visitor Information Center.
Lodging tax funds are derived from the hotel-motel taxes collected at the city’s only hotel, Studio 6, an extended stay facility located in the Gateway Place Business Park in southwest Mountlake Terrace.
