Construction has begun on installing new water mains beneath 56th Avenue West between 228th and 230th Street Southwest. During the project, 56th Avenue West will remain closed until Tuesday, June 12. Detours taking motorists west to 58th Avenue West are in effect.
The installation of 8-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch water mains in the downtown area of Mountlake Terrace began earlier this year. This closure of 56th is the most significant of the project, affecting traffic to downtown businesses, homes, one church and the Recreation Pavilion. Access is available, but drivers are advised to follow detour routes and take caution in the construction zone.
The road closure has also forced the Edmonds School District to reroute some school bus routes; buses are not allowed access to the closed portion of 56th.
