Cedar Way Elementary School in Mountlake Terrace has a new walking path around its upper playfields after workers installed the paved walkway on Thursday.

Crews were out early Thursday morning laying gravel, then putting sealer down to form the path. The softball infield was also leveled and given a fresh layer of dirt.

The path completed a second phase of grounds improvements funded with money raised by the school’s Parent/Teacher Organization though various  efforts, including $50,000 from a Pepsi Refresh Foundation grant earned in early 2011. The Edmonds School District also provided a matching grant from its Capital Partnership Program.

The first phase of school ground upgrades was installation of new playground equipment, completed in July 2011.

The first big test of the new walkway and softball infield will be a back-to-school potluck/picnic this Sunday for returning Cedar Way Elementary School students and their families.
