For just the second time in school history, the Cedar Park Christian School — Mountlake Terrace Lions have qualified to compete in the final rounds of the WIAA 2014 1B Boys State Basketball Tournament that begin on Thursday, Mar. 6

CPCS-MLT hit the road on Wednesday to trek more than 280 miles to Spokane. site of the 1B Boys Hardwood Classic. The Lions play Colton at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday in quarterfinal action.

With only 110 students, the private high school in Mountlake Terrace may be small in numbers but big in school pride. “Between the cheerleaders, pep band and the team, and some rooters, we probably have half the school going,” said Jody Speck, school Administrative Assistant / Registrar.

CPCS-MLT’s only other trip to the final rounds of tournament play in boys basketball was at the end of the 1994-1995 season when the Lions place fourth in state.

The Lions punched their ticket to Spokane after a thrilling 66-61 overtime win over Soap Lake last weekend in the regional round of the state playoffs. CPCS-MLT boasts a season record of 17-12 under Coach Pat Russell, who also serves as the school principal.
