Can you help send MTHS journalism students to national conference?

HawkeyeWebLogoHawkTAO4For those MLTnews readers who don’t know, the Mountlake Terrace High School journalism program is one of the best in the United States, with its student-run publication, The Hawkeye, receiving annual national accolades. Last spring, in fact, The Hawkeye earned its first-ever Pacemaker Award — presented to the top online student publications based upon design, navigation, writing/editing, graphics and interactivity.

Twice yearly, journalism teacher and Hawkeye adviser Vince DeMiero takes Hawkeye staff to the National High School Journalism Convention, a gathering of high school journalists and advisers sponsored by National Scholastic Press Association and its partner, the Journalism Education Association. Expenses are high for this fall”s conference, to be held in mid-November in Boston and New York, and students are expected to fundraise and pay their own way.

Because MLTnews is committed to the future of journalism as a fundamental cornerstone of our democracy, we are launching a donation campaign to assist Hawkeye students in their travels to the national conference — and we are inviting our readers to assist with this effort. “MLTnews is committed to matching your donation, dollar-for-dollar, up to $300,” said Publisher Teresa Wippel. “You can donate easily online via Paypal — using your Paypal account or a credit card — using this link.

You can also mail a check to MLTnews via Teresa Wippel, 23800 74th Ave. W., Edmonds, WA 98026.

    1. I wanted to donate to help Hawkeye journalism students with their travel to the national conference, but there is something wrong with the link “donate easily online via Paypal”. Please let me know if you have another link or direct me to a means of donating online.
