Busy Day for MLT PD: SWAT training, stabbing, robbery

It was a busy day for the Mountlake Terrace Police Department yesterday. In addition to some SWAT training there was a stabbing as well as a robbery that led to a search for the suspect.

Around 4:20 pm on Wednesday a 23 year old Seattle man was in the street speaking with his mother in front of her house near 60th Ave W and 237th St SW. Standing with them was another woman and her 4 year old child as well. The group was approached by an agitated 52 year old man who lived in the same home who had a problem with the Seattle man being in the street in front of the home. According to witnesses, the 52 year old MLT resident attacked the 23 year old Seattle man. The 23 year claimed that he was protecting himself when he pulled out a knife and slashed at the throat of the MLT man. The injuries were significant enough that he was taken to Harboview Hospital for treatment. According to Commander Doug Hansen The 23 year old Seattle man was arrested for assault and booked at the Snohomish County Jail.

We received many tips about the second incident as there was a large police presence near QFC. There was a robbery that occured in a car in the neighborhood behind QFC (228th/44th). The victim in the robbery knew one of the three suspects. There was a significant delay in reporting the crime by the victim and the police presence was the PD following up on the leads that the victim provided.

  1. The stabbing incident happened on our street, and (I’m sorry to say) we know several of the people involved, and spoke with them after the incident. A couple important details they gave us:

     – The “23 year old Seattle man” is a homeless registered sex offender who was convicted of molesting a 5-year-old boy. He is not supposed to be near children.
     – The “agitated 52 year old man” was later referred to by the mother of the 4-year-old as “my ex”. He was understandably concerned that the sex offender was not keeping his distance from the 4 year old boy.

I can understand why the older man was agitated. I would be too! I don’t know the blow-by-blow details of how the knife came into use, but it sounds like the right man was arrested.
