Natasha Parman, PT, DPT, a therapist at MOSAIC Physical Therapy in Mountlake Terrace, has recently completed professional continuing education for treating conditions related to pelvic health, including incontinence and pelvic pain. Parman completed the Pelvic Floor Function, Dysfunction, and Treatment Level 1 through the Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute.
Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. Physical therapy treatment techniques available include bladder retraining, manual therapy and exercise training. Research has shown almost half of women who perform Kegel exercises are performing them incorrectly. A physical therapist trained in pelvic health can assess pelvic floor muscle function, including, power, endurance, relaxation and coordination. They can also assess the hip and lumbar spine to rule out other orthopaedic issues that may be contributing to pelvic dysfunction.
