Burglary attempt prompts lockdown at Cedar Way Elementary Monday

We had a reader ask us about a police incident Monday near Cedar Way Elementary in Mountlake Terrace that caused a lockdown of the school around 3 p.m. The same reader also wondered about reports that there have been “a string” of burglaries in the community lately.

According to Mountlake Terrace Police Commander Doug Hansen, police were dispatched Monday to an attempted burglary in the 4000 block of 225th Place Southwest that was reported by a neighbor who scared the suspects away. The suspects were described as light-skinned black or Hispanic males in their 20s, he added.

“The school was advised of our activity and went into lockdown due to the K-9 track that we were attempting in an area so close to the school,” Hansen said via email. Hansen also noted that there has been “a steep increase” in burglary-related crimes in the area recently.

As a reminder, Mountlake Terrace police and other local law enforcement agencies are co-sponsoring a Burglary Prevention Fair from 10 am.-1 p.m. this Saturday, May 5 at Meadowdale High School.
