Brier cemetery honors its veterans

Abbey View Memorial Park & Cemetery has honored veterans laid to rest in the Brier cemetery by planting flags at each of their grave sites for the Memorial Day weekend.

Volunteers from the community began planting the more than 700 flags last Wednesday all around the 82-acre cemetery. “We walked the neighborhood, passing out flyers and looking for volunteers, and about ten to twelve families responded,” said Dan White, Manager of the Abbey View grounds.

This is the first time Abbey View has placed flags at each of the grave sites of veterans, White said. They hope to make it a twice-yearly tradition, with the flags on display for the Veterans’ Day holiday in November also.

Abbey View Memorial Park & Cemetery is located at 3601 Alaska Road in Brier.
