Boys prep basketball: Hawks hold on to defeat Grizzlies, 51-48

After leading by double digits early in the fourth quarter, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks held on and defeated a gutsy Glacier Peak Grizzlies squad 51-48 in a Wesco League South Conference boys basketball game Tuesday at Glacier Peak High School.

The Grizzlies pulled to within a point four times in the final 3:11 of the match-up, but timely rebounding and free throw shooting helped the Hawks hang on and win their eighth game of the season.

Glacier Peak’s Zach Hatch had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but a long, off-balanced, three-point attempt missed the mark, giving the Hawks the victory.

Derek Anyimah led Terrace with 19 points, the only Hawk in double figures scoring. Hatch and Brendan Tetrault each had 10 points for the Grizzlies.

Terrace is tied with the Shorecrest Scots for the lead in the Wesco League South Conference, each with a 3-0 conference record. The Hawks and Scots face off on Friday, Jan. 8, at Mountlake Terrace High School with sole ownership of the conference lead at stake. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Sound Live Sports Network.
