On a cold and blustery night, the Mountlake Terrace boys basketball team found the confines of Marysville-Getchell High School warm and inviting Tuesday as the Hawks scored a comfortable victory over the host Chargers, 73-30.
The win enabled the Hawks (5-1 in league play, 10-2 overall) to stay tied with Shorewood (5-1, 10-3) on top of the Wesco 3A South standings. The T-Birds beat Oak Harbor 69-68 in overtime Tuesday night, while Glacier Peak (4-1, 10-2) dropped to third place following their one-point loss to Stanwood, 55-54.
Maryville-Getchell fell to 2-4 in the Wesco 3A, 4-9 overall.
Loren Lacasse led the Hawks with 22 points, a game-day season high for the junior. Marquis Armstead scored 16 while Greg Bowman added 12. The Terrace defense allowed only six Chargers to score, all in single digits.
The road gets much tougher for the Hawks as they head to Stanwood Friday night to face the 9-4 Spartans, with game time at 7:15 p.m.
