If the Mountlake Terrace High School boys basketball team was looking ahead to two big games this weekend, it didn’t show Tuesday night as the Hawks got off to a dominating start and never looked back in their match-up with the Marysville-Getchell Chargers. Terrace outscored the Chargers 17-2 in the first quarter and coasted to a 62-44 victory in Marysville.
The win propelled Terrace to first place in the Wesco 3A South Conference with a 5-1 league record, overtaking Glacier Peak (4-2), who lost Tuesday to Stanwood.
The Hawks’ big front line overpowered the smaller Chargers as 6-5 Loren Lacasse led the team in scoring with 17 points; Terrace’s 6-6 Greg Bowman added 12 points. The Chargers’ outstanding senior guard Nathen Grimm led all scorers in the game with 18 points.
In what may be the Wesco 3A game of the year, the Hawks will host the undefeated and fifth-in-state ranked Stanwood Spartans on Friday, Jan. 17, at Mountlake Terrace High School. Tip-off is slated for 7:15 p.m.; the game will be broadcast live by the Sound Live Sports Network beginning at approximately 7:05 p.m.
