Boys basketball: Hawks down Oak Harbor 69-57

A spunky Oak Harbor Wildcats boys basketball team tried to stay with the Mountlake Terrace Hawks in a Wesco League match-up Friday night at Oak Harbor High School, but ran out of gas late. The Hawks pulled away in the final five minutes and grabbed the win 69-57.

Terrace, ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press High School 3A Boys Basketball poll, outscored the Wildcats 17-8 in those fateful final 5:00 to secure the victory.

Loren Lacasse led the Hawks in scoring with 17 points. Yoel Tekle scored his season high with 16 points; teammate Greg Bowman also picked up 16 points in the victory.

The Hawks will host Marysville-Getchell, a team with only one victory so far this season, on Tuesday, Jan. 14, before they get ready for a big double dip of games next weekend. On Friday, Jan. 17, Terrace will host the undefeated and fifth-in-state ranked Stanwood Spartans. Then on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, Jan. 20, the Hawks will face perennial Portland, Oregon power Central Catholic at the Showare Arena in Kent.
