Boys basketball: Hawks fall to the bulldogs, play Oak Harbor Wednesday

Mountlake Terrace ended were in the lead by 4 points after the first quarter of their game Thursday night against Mount Vernon but it would be the last time they would be ahead.

Mount Vernon had a big second quarter, outscoring Terrace 18-10 and leading by 4 at the half. The third quarter saw more of the same as Mount Vernon outscored Terrace 20-10.

Going in to the quarter down 30-44, the Hawks made a big push and were able to outscore the Bulldogs 19-11 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough. Mount Vernon defeated Mountlake Terrace 55-49 to guarantee a spot in the state tournament.

Point breakdown for Terrace: Johnson 16, Powell 2, Nguyen, Fernandez 3, Karels 15, Zerom, Armstead 4, Haldane 0, Snow 4, Swanstrom 5.

Mountlake Terrace will play Oak Harbor on Wednesday, February 16 at 7:30 at home. Terrace must beat Oak Harbor as well as the winner of the Shorewood/Meadowdale game on February 19 to advance to the state tournament.
