Mountlake Terrace senior Rene Bos gave up just two hits, struck out 10 and gave up only one walk, but it wasn’t good enough for the Hawks to pick up a victory on Friday as the team was stymied by the Glacier Peak Grizzlies 2-0 at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Junior Callie Bircher pitched a complete game shutout for the Grizzlies, striking out 12 and allowing only one walk. Bircher had the only two hits off of Bos, one being an RBI triple in the first inning; she then scored on a Terrace throwing error.

The victory enabled the Grizzlies (8-3 in Wesco play, 12-6 overall) to clinch at least third place in the Wesco 3A South division, while Terrace is now guaranteed to finish in fourth. The Hawks’ record is 6-5 in league play, 10-8 overall, with two home games remaining in the regular season, a Monday, May 6 match-up with 2-16 Shorewood, and a Wednesday, May 8 finale with Shorecrest.
No matter the results of the Hawks’ final two regular season games, the team will qualify for the 3A District 1 Tournament slated to begin May 14 in Everett.
