Book Buddies at the Mountlake Terrace Library

via the Mountlake Terrace Library blog:
This summer the Mountlake Terrace Library will be hosting a wonderful program called Book Buddies. Book Buddies is a program for children in second and third grades who know the basics of reading, but could use a little help and encouragement. The children are paired with teenagers from the community who have been specially trained for this program. For seven weeks the pairs will select materials to fit the child’s interests, practice reading, and play educational games…then celebrate their achievements with a pizza party!

If you know any children (2nd and 3rd grade) who would benefit from this program, please pick up an application at the Mountlake Terrace Library. Children’s applications will be accepted until the program is full (based on the number of teen volunteers).

If you know a teen who would enjoy volunteering for Book Buddies, please encourage them to come by the library and fill out an application. Teen applications are due Friday June 12th, 2009. There is a required training teens must attend on Monday June 15th from 3:30-5:30. Teens must also be able to commit to the majority of sessions. Volunteers will also get a free t-shirt for participation!

Book Buddies sessions will take place Monday afternoons from 3-4:30, June 29th-August 17th, 2009.

The Mountlake Terrace Library is located at 23300 58th Ave. W.
