Friday night hundreds of people showed up at Evergreen Playfield in Mountlake Terrace to welcome the holiday season by lighting up the holiday “tree” on top the Mountlake Terrace water tower.
The event, put on by the City, featured Christmas songs sung by the Terrace Park Elementary 5th and 6th grade choir, hot chocolate and treats served by volunteers, a visit by Santa Claus in a Fire District 1 fire engine and a touching memorial/moment of silence led by police chief Gregory Wilson honoring the fallen officers from Seattle and Lakewood.
Police chief Gregory Wilson explained that they did not plan for the blue lights on the tree to have a special meaning this year, they are now serving a double purpose:
When you look up on the water tower and see the blue lights shining, please keep the officers whove died in the line of duty in your thoughts and prayers.
