After giving up an unearned run in the top of the first inning, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks clamped down on defense, held the Oak Harbor Wildcats to that single run and walked away with a 4-1 victory Friday at Mountlake Terrace High School.

The 1-0 Oak Harbor lead was short-lived as the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, then added an insurance run in the second. Terrace’s Jason Shevenko not only aided the offense by going 2-for-three with a double and an RBI, but struck out six Wildcats in five innings pitched to earn the victory. Daniel Theis earned the save by pitching two scoreless innings.
The Wildcat’s Danny Wolfe pitched a complete came for Oak Harbor, but gave up 10 hits in the loss.
The win evened the Hawk’s league record at 1-1 and gave the squad some momentum going into a big three-game series with Wesco South Conference rival Glacier Peak next week. Terrace will travel to games at Glacier Peak High School on Tuesday, April 1 and Friday, April 4, and will host the Grizzlies at Mountlake Terrace High School on Wednesday, April 2. All games are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
