Students from the Edmonds School District, including a number of students and graduates from Mountlake Terrace High School, posted strong finishes at the 2013 Special Olympics Summer Games May 31-June 2 at Fort Lewis. The Mountlake Terrace High School Unified soccer team finished fifth at the state games.

Some 2,700 Special Olympics athletes competed in the three-day event in track and field, soccer, swimming, cycling and powerlifting.

Many of the Edmonds School District athletes who competed at the Summer Games are participants in the district’s VOICE Program, (Vocational Opportunities in Community Experiences). The program is designed for students 18-21 who have completed four years of high school and are now involved in a curriculum to prepare them for adult life.
