Have an idea that promotes tourism in MLT? Apply now for a grant

$23,000 in lodging tax funds is available to qualified applicants for projects and events that promote tourism in 2011. Lodging tax or tourism promotion funds come from the taxes collected from the Studio 6 hotel located in Mountlake Terrace. The city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will review applications and make a recommendation to the City Council based upon certain criteria.

Hotel-motel tax funds must be used for marketing or operation of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists or to acquire or operate tourism related facilities. The program or event should have the potential to increase overnight visits to the city’s hotel and/or create an economic or other community benefit. These funds have helped support events such as Tour de Terrace and Arts of the Terrace.

Applications for lodging tax funds are available by calling Community Relations Director Virginia Olsen at (425) 744-6206 or by email to cityhall@ci.mlt.wa.us. You may download an application from the city’s website at www.cityofmlt.com on the City Happenings/Community Grant Funds page. Application materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2011.
