More than 1,200 items were collected and donated at the Sharing Tree inside the Alderwood Mall this holiday season. This was the Alderwood-Terrace Rotary’s 27th year of collecting and distributing toys and clothing to those in need during the holidays.

The Sharing Tree started in 1988 in the toy department of Sears. Donations are primarily distributed to families who are eligible for food stamps or whose children are eligible for free or reduced lunches.

The Alderwood-Terrace Rotary says this year, one man donated $250. He told the club members working at the tree that the Sharing Tree helped him provide gifts for his two children a few years ago, so now he’s returning the favor.

A local church group also donated 100 gifts.

The annual collection is approximately 1,500-2,000 items. At an estimated $10 per item, the club has distributed over $460,000 in toys and clothing over the years.
