After sitting out his first season with the Central Washington University football squad, former MTHS Hawk Mitchell Haldane is ready to hit the gridiron this year with the Wildcats.
“I am looking forward to seeing the field this year any way I can and contributing to a winning season,” said Haldane, who will be a sophomore at CWU this year.
The Division II Wildcats began fall practices on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and open their season on the road Sept. 1 against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Haldane graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in 2011 and had a strong senior season at linebacker for the Hawks. He hopes to see some playing time at the linebacker position for CWU this year.
“It all depends on how the other linebackers look this summer and who works harder and can make plays and be the most effective,” Haldane predicted.
Haldane said he likes coming back to Mountlake Terrace and viewing his former team play, but doesn’t see that happening this season. “I don’t believe I will be able to watch them this year if I am playing and traveling with my team,” he said.
And what is Haldane’s biggest dream for the coming season? “Hopefully a postseason run for a national championship at CWU,” he said.
