Prep girls basketball: Cedar Park Christian defeats Quilcene 63-27

CPC-MLT logoIn a game that featured two of the most prolific scorers in 1B girls’ basketball, the Cedar Park Christian — MLT Lions defeated the Quilcene Rangers 63-27 Thursday to advance to the 1B Girls Tri-District Basketball Tournament that begins on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Hailey Carlson, who averages more than 20 points per game, led the Lions in scoring Thursday with 26 points. Salome Yosef tallied 19 points for CPC-MLT while teammate Jennifer Perekopskaya added 10 points in the victory.

The Rangers were led by the 19 points of senior Megan Weller, who came into Thursday’s contest averaging 18.4 points per game this year. Weller surpassed the 1,000 point threshold in her high school career with Quilcene earlier this season.

CPC-MLT (13-10 overall) will open the 1B Girls Tri-District Basketball Tournament with a tilt against the Seattle Lutheran Saints (12-7 overall) on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.

Win or lose, the Lions will play a second Tri-District tourney game on Feb. 16. The top six teams in the eight-team tournament will qualify for the regional round of the 1B state championship tourney; regional games will be played on Feb. 26 and 27.
