The start of construction to replace water mains, storm sewers and fire hydrants on 228th Street Southwest, 44th Avenue West/Cedar Way and 39th Avenue West around the Cedar Plaza shopping district has been delayed until next week, Mountlake Terrace city officials announced on Thursday.

The $1.2 million project is now anticipated to be finished in early summer, with more street work scheduled to follow immediately after the water main and storm drain improvements are completed.

Once both projects are finished, more than a mile of replacement water pipes will have been laid, improved sidewalk ramps and street signs will be in place, two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon pedestrian crossings will be in operation, and new street surfaces, bicycle lanes and center left turn lanes will be situated on 228th Street Southwest from 39th to 44th Avenues West and on 44th Avenue West/Cedar Way between 227th and 232nd Streets Southwest.

The city is advising that drivers should anticipate delays on 228th Street Southwest, 39th Avenue West and 44th Avenue West/Cedar Way during the project.
