The Cheeseburger Babies Foundation is seeking volunteers for its Independence Day Celebration on July 3.
The celebration at Ballinger Park, located at 23000 Lakeview Dr., will include games, a pie-eating contest, live entertainment, face painting and, for the first time, fireworks over Lake Ballinger.
The city approved the event in early May.
“We’re excited,” Seaun Richards, founder of the Cheeseburger Babies Foundation, said. “The city has really stepped up to the plate to pull this together.”
Richards said the company putting on the fireworks show is the same one that does the show over Lake Union in Seattle on July 4.
Volunteers are needed to help set up and tear down the event. Volunteers will also assist with crowd control, operating games and handing out popcorn, among other duties. Volunteers can work any hours between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. on July 3. Interested parties may contact Richards at 425-218-5996.
Festivities at Ballinger Park begin at 7 p.m. and end around 11 p.m. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Bags are subject to search.
Because of the limited parking at Ballinger Park, four shuttle buses will also run from the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center, located at 6001 236th St. SW., to Ballinger Park from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Mountlake Terrace Police will be patrolling Lake View Drive and surrounding streets to make sure vehicles aren’t stopped on the roads to watch fireworks, or blocking traffic while waiting for parking spaces to open up.
“We want everyone to be patient and don’t stop. Keep moving,” Richards said.
