The Mountlake Terrace High School girls track team got big performances out their athletes in the field events, but the results from the sprint showdowns between Hawk Barbara Biney and Edmonds-Woodway’s Djenne Dickens helped tilt the team scores in favor of the Warriors. E-W outscored Terrace 166 to 155 to win the girls team title at the Edmonds School District track championships Friday at Edmonds Stadium.

The Lynnwood girls took third place with 150 points; Meadowdale rounded out the scoring with 65 points.

The Edmonds-Woodway boys walked away with the boys team championship with 175 points. Meadowdale took second place with 150 points, followed by Mountlake Terrace at 106 points and Lynnwood with 82 points.

Dickens and Biney battled in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters, with the Warrior senior winning both events. Dickens’ time of 12.39 in the 100 meters beat out second place Biney’s 12.64; Biney was the runner-up to Dickens in the 200 meters also.

Biney was the hard luck competitor at the meet as the Hawk senior finished second in two other events too, the long jump and the triple jump.

Terrace's Chinne Okoronkwo won the long jump, while McKenna Hunt placed first in the girls 100 meter hurdles.

Terrace’s Chinne Okoronkwo was a three-event winner on Friday, topping the field in the pole vault, the long jump and the triple jump. But Okoronkwo’s performance was bested by Lynnwood’s Mikayla Pivec, who won four events, the 800 meters, the 1600 meters, the 3200 meters and the javelin.

McKenna Hunt was the only other Hawk winner on Friday; Hunt won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.49.

On the boys side, Theo Lebesis helped lead the Warriors to the team title by capturing three events, the discus, shot put and javelin. The Terrace boys were shut out of top podium placements; Brett Potter grabbed two second place finishes, in the shot put and discus. Other Hawk runner-ups were Nathan Sparks in the 800 meters, Jack Pearce in the 3200 meters, and the surprising 4×100 meter relay team of Michael Liddell, Riley Morrin, Cole Anderson and Joseph May.
