After bringing home the Wesco League 3A Girls Track & Field championship earlier this month, the girls of the Mountlake Terrace High School track team added more hardware to the trophy case on Friday with a first-place team finish at the 3A NW District 1 Track & Field Championships in Shoreline.
The Hawk girls picked up eight individual event titles at the district meet, three by sophomore Chinne Okoronkwo, who won the triple jump, the long jump and the pole vault. Okoronkwo set the new top mark in the state so far this year for the triple jump at 40-11.
Other Hawks to win individual events were Barbara Biney in the 100 meters, Katherine Gustafson in the 3200 meters, Hailee Malins in the discus, and McKenna Hunt, who took the top medal in both the 100 meters and the 300 meters.
On the boys side, Terrace placed a respectable fifth in the 11-team field. Top individual performances were second place finishes for Brett Potter in the discus and Michael Liddell in the long jump, and a third place finish for Jack Pearce in the 1600 meters.
