Organizations or groups that conduct festivals or special events in Mountlake Terrace are invited to apply for a portion of approximately $22,500 in lodging tax funds available in 2014. Applications must be received by the City of Mountlake Terrace by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.
The funds available come from lodging tax collections at the city’s only hotel/motel, Studio 6 Hotel.
Lodging tax funds must be used for marketing or operation of festivals or special events designed to attract tourists to the city. The funds may also support the operations of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by nonprofit organizations. In prior years lodging tax funds have helped support such events as Tour de Terrace, Arts of the Terrace, and the Mountlake Terrace Farmers Market.
The city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will review applications and make a recommendation to the Mountlake Terrace City Council based upon certain criteria and state law. The council is tentatively scheduled to review the applications at their Jan. 2, 2014 work/study session, with formal approval of the funding tentatively scheduled for Jan. 6, 2014.
