The vehicle was first spotted by an Edmonds Police officer on southbound I-5 near the Lynnwood Park and Ride and stopped after crashing into a trooper’s cruiser near the Northgate Way exit.

A suspected DUI driver traveled in excess of 100 miles per hour from the Lynnwood Park and Ride to Northgate Way on Monday night before crashing into a trooper’s cruiser.

An Edmonds police officer first saw the suspect speeding past him on southbound I-5 near the Lynnwood Park and Ride at 11:45 p.m. on Monday.

“The officer advised State Patrol and followed,” Edmonds Police Spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley said.

The officer followed the suspect through Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds and Shoreline to North 175th Street, where the officer tried to stop the vehicle.

“The driver did not flee, but ended up taking the Northgate Way exit,” Hawley said.

It was there that the vehicle crashed into a Washington State Patrol trooper’s cruiser, which was stopped while the trooper conducted field sobriety tests on a different suspected DUI driver. The speeding suspect managed to slow down to an estimated 15-20 miles per hour before hitting the cruiser, State Patrol Spokesman Trooper Rick Johnson said. Luckily, the trooper was outside the vehicle at the time.

No one was hurt in the collision. The driver of the speeding vehicle was arrested for DUI.
