Snohomish County Fire District 1 recently promoted six officers:

Doug Dahl
Doug Dahl
Doug Dahl — Deputy Chief of Operations. Dahl served nine years as a battalion chief, 10 years as a lieutenant and one year as a training officer. Dahl is also a hazardous materials technician. He began is his fire service career in 1986 in Pierce County and was hired in 1989 by the Edmonds Fire Department, which merged with Fire District 1 in 2010. Dahl served 17 years as a member of the executive board for the firefighters union local. He volunteers as an assistant track and field coach for Mountlake Terrace High School.

John Chalfant
John Chalfant – Battalion Chief assigned to the South Battalion, which includes fire stations in Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Hilltop in unincorporated Snohomish County. Chalfant served 14 years as a station captain. In 2005, he completed his paramedic training at Harborview Medical Center. Chalfant is also a rescue technician and a fire training instructor. He began his fire service career in 1992 as a volunteer with Snohomish County Fire District 11, which merged with Fire District 1 in 2000. He has been a full-time firefighter since 1996.

Greg Westerman – Battalion Chief assigned to the North Battalion, which includes fire stations in unincorporated Snohomish County at Martha Lake, Mariner, Hilton Lake, Silver Firs, Serene Lake and 156th Street SW north of Lynnwood. Westerman was hired by Fire District 1 in 1979. He has been a member of the district’s technical rescue team since 1992 and has served as a captain since 2006. Westerman has a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration from Eastern Oregon University.

Micah Gaston — Captain assigned to Mountlake Terrace Fire Station 19. Gaston has been a firefighter/paramedic with Fire District 1 since 1999. He is a graduate of the Central Washington University paramedic. He is vice president for political action for International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1828 and coordinates local involvement in the Firefighters Coats for Kids program, which provided more than 150 free coats for school children in Fire District 1.

John Storm – Captain assigned to Mariner Fire Station 11. Storm started with the Edmonds Fire Department as a volunteer in 1984. He was hired full time in 1988 and has worked most of his career at Edmonds Fire Station 16. Storm is trained in marine operations. He is a past member of the hazardous materials team and has training in high-angle and confined space rescue.

Karl Fitterer
Karl Fitterer — Deputy Fire Marshal assigned to Mountlake Terrace and Brier. Fitterer has been a firefighter/paramedic for 26 years, including 21 years with Fire District 1. Fitterer completed his paramedic training at Central Washington University and holds a degree in fire administration from Edmonds Community College.
