City workers spent Tuesday spreading the last of six dump truck loads of gravel used for subgrade on 350 feet of new sidewalk being built in the 4400 block of 216th Street Southwest.

Work is underway to prepare for the replacement of about 350 feet of sidewalk on the north side of 216th Street Southwest west of 44th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace. The city and the Cedarwood Park Condominium Homeowners Association (HOA) are working together to complete the project.

The root system of some large fir trees damaged the previous sidewalk beyond repair. The HOA has removed the trees and the city is replacing the sidewalk; city crews completed demolition of the walkway and are preparing the subgrade.

AA Asphalting, Inc. of Snohomish, selected in a competitive bid process, will form and pour the new walkway. The project is expected to be completed by late March.
