Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) visited Clothes For Kids Monday morning. The visit was casual and did not include much fanfare so she could have a chance to see first-hand the work accomplished by the organization.
Each year, Clothes For Kids, a non-profit organization, provides clothing for all children eligible for free or reduced price lunch in Snohomish County, including the Edmonds School District. Last year, they served over 2,900 children. A typical shopping trip gives a child enough clothes to last one school week without duplicating outfits.
Murray toured the facility with Executive Director Joy Ingram, asking questions like “How does Clothes for Kids get referrals? What about transportation for the children, so they can shop?”
Program Director Nancy Laird-Burris explained how money is raised for new items like socks, shoes and underwear.
“You guys are wonderful to do this,” Murray said after she spent a few minutes observing how the clothing is sorted. “I really appreciate what you are doing here. It’s really important and and impressive.”
Clothes For Kids has geared up for the coming school year, and children have been happily preparing for the school year with school clothes.
