Officers from the Mountlake Terrace Police Department found that Aaron Rey Ybarra was very intoxicated at the time and took him to Swedish/Edmonds Medical Center for involuntary commitment. In a similar case from 2012, a police report said officers found Ybarrra lying in the middle of the street and said he wanted a SWAT team to get him and “make him famous.” He also said at the time he wanted to die, The Times said. Ybarra had a “fascination with mass shootings,” a law-enforcement source briefed on the investigation said Friday.
Police records also show that Ybarra also was arrested by Edmonds police for driving under the influence in July 2012, The Times reported. His blood-alcohol level was recorded as 0.10, records show.

Mountlake Terrace High School Principal Greg Schwab said Ybarra attended Maplewood Parent Cooperative school before transferring to the Edmonds Homeschool Resource Center (now Edmonds Heights K-12), according to the MTHS Hawkeye newspaper. Schwab confirmed that Ybarra’s older sister was a 2003 Mountlake Terrace High School graduate, the Hawkeye said.
We are also hearing reports that Ybarra attended Edmonds-Woodway High School, although according to the District spokeswoman he did not graduate from any District high schools.
Ybarra also previously attended Edmonds Community College.
