The Foundation for Edmonds School District said Friday that it gave away over $32,000 in Hazel Miller Foundation grant funding to 270 teachers for classroom supplies.
“We were just stunned by the volume of reimbursement requests received so quickly,” said Foundation Executive Director Deb Anderson. “Teachers arrived as early as 6:30 a.m. on June 1 and funds were gone in less than two short days. It was all I could do to keep up with requests.”
Now in its fifth year, the Hazel Miller Foundation Back to School Basics program reimburses teachers for classroom supplies. “We cannot thank the Hazel Miller Foundation enough for their incredibly generous support,” said Foundation Board Chair Casey Auve.
The program has made 1,286 reimbursements totaling $154,000 over the past five years.
“We know that teachers spend thousands of dollars of their own money on supplies each year,” said Auve. “This program provides some financial relief for our teachers and the important role they play in education.”
For over 32 years, the Foundation for Edmonds School District has supported students, teachers and schools by putting money they raise where it enhances student learning the most — directly into schools and classrooms.
