The Return Of Sorelli's!

UPDATE 10/28/2009: Sorelli Pizza to re-open November 2nd

UPDATE 10/16: https://mltnews.wpengine.com/return-sorelli-pizza-oven-speak/

It’s official. Sorelli’s Pizza is coming back, and coming back better than ever! Yes, those Mountlake Terrace residents in a fury over the recent closure of Sorrelli’s, worried about the lack of their famous pizza sauce in their diet, can rest easy that their palette will soon be saved with the fluffy crust of a Sorelli pie smothered in the red goodness that the local favorite is famous for.

Friday, September 26th, Sorelli’s became the new baby to three long time Mountlake Terrace residents and friends, Kelly Dougan, and Devin and Kimberly Klaudt. The three will officially take the keys to Sorelli’s on October 1 and begin their transformation of the local pizza favorite into an even better family hangout for pizza and fun. The trio have known each other and been active in the Mountlake Terrace community for years. Kelly Dougan is a Mountlake Terrace resident and businessman, as well as director for the Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association (MTYAA). The Klaudts are also active in MTYAA and manage their own local business.

The team is excited to get moving quickly to get Sorelli’s back and serving up the tasty pizza the local hangout is famous for. They hope to have the restaurant open again within 2-4 weeks.

Sorelli’s will keep its name through this change, as well as most of the original team and menu items. I confirmed, for my own benefit, that the parmesan loaded caesar salads are staying. Of course, the pizza and the famous sauce will remain a staple of the Sorelli’s restaurant. Kelly didn’t specify which items would be axed from the menu, but did indicate that the core menu will remain intact. There was initially discussion of a name change, but was decided between the three to keep the already established and branded name that is familiar in the MLT community.

The team’s goal is to make Sorelli’s a family hangout beyond the pizza and after the salad is gone. To do that, the new owners will be completely changing the inside by cleaning up, moving things around and making better use of the space. The old, bulky TVs will be going away, making way for modern space-saving HD flat screens, ideal for Sunday afternoon football. They indicated unused appliances and fixtures in the restaurant that will either be pulled out or put to good use, such as the dusty espresso machine. All of which were included in the bid and the lease takeover.

Unfortunately, as they are new owners, they must apply for a new state liquor license, so don’t expect beer or wine right away at their grand re-opening, but rest assured a complete and tasty beverage menu for the adults will be coming soon.

Keep an eye out for Kelly, Devin and Kimberly as they begin the transformation this week, and prepare to return a needed Mountlake Terrace business to full operation. I see the new Sorelli parents every week, and will keep after them for updates on their progress, so be sure to check back here for additional information, opening dates and more. Thank you guys for bringing back this great local business, and I personally look forward to many football and pizza filled weekends at Sorelli’s with my boys.

I can taste the sauce and the parmesan already.

  1. Bring back the Garlic Gulch Sauce!! Lower the cost of a slice back to $2.75 w/a free soda included. And lastly, knock down the wall to the old Video store & expand it. Once the liquor license arrives, start raking in the cash, boys & girls

  3. I wonder if they're going to keep their great lunch specials and their great deal: a slice of pizza and drink for $4.50. I'll be in every week if that's the case…and I'll bring along a few friends!

  5. Fantastic news! I can't wait. I like that the menu will be basically undisturbed. The food and the prices were great. Even if you have to charge a bit more keep the big beers. Same thought as Doughy – knock down the wall and expand into what used to be Video Mirage.

  7. Glad Sorelli has new owners. The previous owners were becoming inflexible, erratic, and broken-down. Hopefully, the new Sorelli's will discourage gluttorous tendencies — without offending — of many of its customers. Over the past 25 years, obesity rates have skyrocketed in blue collar neighborhoods like Mountlake Terrace (Auburn, Lynnwood, Kent), where customers tend to prefer quantity over quality. Let's see if the new Sorelli simply complies with customer demands or has the charisma and salesmanship to create new, healthier customer demands.

  9. There is no way Sorelli's old or new can be blamed for people the area being obese. If they don't meet demand and offer only healthy stuff then the “Obese” people will just go else were. Besides if people would actually pay attention to what they eat and not load up on junk food every day then they wouldn't be obese. If these people don't have Sorelli's they'll go else where like McD's, Burger King, or somewhere else. At least let them support a local business with their unhealthy eating habits. I for one will not return if they force a healthy option on me (then again I only ate at Sorelli's one a month maybe twice) but if I can't endulge once in a while then I will take my business else where.

  11. Waiting to hear the word on Sorelli's. I don't drive 44th Ave everday so keep me in the loop. I want to be the first one ordering a lunch special on the day that they re-open the doors. its been a long couple months without my slice and caesar.

  13. Okay, I know there are many chomping at the bit for updates on Sorelli Pizza! I'm getting an update together now, and will try to have it up for all the saucy fans out there by the end of the weekend!I'll say this though… the owners have been hard at work cleaning out the years of neglect in cleaning, painting, prepping and just getting ready to make Sorelli even better than it was! Opening day is still realistically a couple weeks out, but I'll get a more firm date as soon as I can! The new owners are BUSY to say the least!
