The Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee in South Snohomish County will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m., at the Ballinger Golf Course Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Dr., Mountlake Terrace.
The committee has been meeting for more than a year to evaluate the feasibility of forming a regional fire authority to consolidate fire and emergency medical services into one department to serve all of south Snohomish County. Nine jurisdictions are participating in the planning process: Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Woodway and Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7.
At Wednesday’s meeting, the committee will hear recommendations from the RFA Finance Subcommittee on the Fire Benefit Charge, a user fee based on risk and fire service needs. If the nine jurisdictions involved in the planning committee decide to move forward with a plan to establish a Regional Fire Authority, both the plan and any funding proposals would require voter approval.
The RFA Planning Committee regularly meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. All meetings are open to the public. The meeting location rotates among participating jurisdictions and is posted on the RFA Planning Committee website. Agendas, minutes and planning documents are also available online.
