Red Onion Burgers owner and Mountlake Terrace City Councilmember Seaun Richards received a special thank you from the City’s Recreation and Parks Department during the City Council’s July 30 work session.
Richards volunteered to design the curriculum, provide the equipment and teach a week-long Culinary Camp for kids.
Eleven campers signed up about the course, which covered safe food handling, meal preparation and planning.
City staff reported that kids enjoyed learning about cooking and many wanted to come back next year.
“I was very impressed with them,” Richards said of the camp participants.
Richards had prepared the curriculum for the course about three months earlier but decided to tear up his plans within an hour of meeting the kids and do some more advanced work.
“There were a bunch of cool kids to work with and we’re going to do it next year,” Richards said.
