Red Onion Burgers raised $2,500 last Monday to benefit Operation Warm during an all-day Dining for Dollars event. That money was donated to Fire District 1 firefighters on Thursday afternoon.

Operation Warm, a charity event organized every year by the Snohomish County Fire District 1 firefighters union IAFF 1828, purchases new coats for every child in a certain grade level at certain schools. This year, 54 coats will be given to kindergarten students at Mountlake Terrace Elementary School and 120 coats will be given to kindergarten students at Discovery Elementary in the Mukilteo School District.

The Dining for Dollars event on Sept. 26 exceeded IAFF 1828’s goal of raising $2,000, Red Onion Burgers owner Seaun Richards said. During the fundraiser, 20 percent of all proceeds and 100 percent of all tips went to Operation Warm.

During Operation Warm giveaways, every child in the specified grade receives a coat, so no one feels singled out or left out.

An additional Operation Warm fundraiser is scheduled at Shawn O’Donnell’s, located at 122 129th St. S.W. in south Everett, on Oct. 13 from 5-8 p.m.

Coats were most recently donated in mid-January to kids at Mountlake Terrace Elementary. This school year, coats are expected to be distributed sometime in October, though the exact time and date have not been determined yet.
