The Mountlake Terrace Hawks girls track team earned a 10th place finish Saturday at the prestigious Lake Washington Invite, a prep track competition that drew 78 teams from throughout Washington State.
Chinne Okoronkwo grabbed first place in the triple jump event with a mark of 41 feet 11.75 inches, her best of the spring prep season. Okoronkwo is the three-time defending 3A state champion in the girls’ triple jump.
Other notable finishes by the Hawks Saturday included Katherine Walter, fourth in the 3000 meters; Jessica Ong, seventh in the 800 meters; and the fourth place finish by the 4×400 meter relay team.

The Hawks’ boys team didn’t fare as well in competition at the Shoreline Invitational held on Saturday. The squad picked up no team points; the top individual finishes were by junior Braeden Sims in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:28.86 and freshman Brandon Bach in the javelin with a toss of 148 feet, five inches.
