Mountlake Terrace’s Jason Shevenko gave up just four hits, one earned run and struck out nine Lynnwood hitters in six innings, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks dropped the final game of a three-game series to the Royals 4-1 on Friday.
Four errors by Terrace gave the Royals plenty of opportunities to push runs across the plate in what otherwise was a gripping pitchers’ duel at Mountlake Terrace High School. Lynnwood pitcher Lucas Jungmann went the distance to earn the win, giving up just three hits and two walks to the Hawks.
The game was in doubt until the final inning when Lynnwood scored three runs to break a 1-1 tie and earn the victory.
The Royals took the series against Terrace 2-1 and now sit in second place in the Wesco 3A South behind the undefeated Shorewood T-Birds. Both Lynnwood and Terrace begin new three-game sets on Tuesday, Mar. 31 – the Royals against the Meadowdale Mavericks and the Hawks against the Glacier Peak Grizzlies.
In other MTHS action on Friday, Meadowdale shutout the Hawks 9-0 in a Wesco 3A South softball game played at Meadowdale High School. Maverick pitchers Samantha Gregoryk and Julia Reuble allowed only two hits to Terrace and help Meadowdale stay undefeated.
