The Mountlake Terrace Hawks capped off a perfect opening week of the prep girls soccer season with a 6-1 thumping of the visiting Nathan Hale Raiders Saturday at Edmonds Stadium.

Junior Isabel Kembel led the Hawks with three goals in the victory; Donnya Kvinge scored two goals on breakaways while Maddie Powers headed in a goal off a corner kick to round out the Terrace scoring.

With the six-goal outburst on Saturday, Terrace have outscored their opponents 11-2 so far this year.

Terrace didn’t look like a squad that would runaway with Saturday’s matchup early on.

“We started off slow, real slow with no energy for the first 20 minutes,” said Coach Alvin Little. “I pulled my captains, had a chat and got that engine restarted.”

Little’s pep talk came after the Raiders jumped out front with the first goal of the match, pouncing on a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and sliding it into the netting.

But the Hawk defense clamped down for the remainder of the clash, earning praise from Little. “We are defending with pride and our back line is stellar,” he said.

After breezing through their trio of non-conference match-ups, Terrace will next begin Wesco League play on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they face the Lynnwood Royals.
